How Long Do Solar Panels Last?

Most manufacturers give 20-25 year warranty but if solar panels are installed and maintained properly, you can expect them to last and produce good amount of electricity for up to 35-40 years.

Do I need a south facing roof?

No. Solar panels work on light and all roofs have light shining on them. Many customers have fitted east/west facing systems and typically generate around 86% of an equivalent south-facing roof.  However, we would not recommend having solar if your rood is north facing as it would not be economically viable.

How long will it take before I see a return on my initial investment?

The payback is around 8-9 years.

What is the energy 'spot market'?

The spot energy market allows energy producers (e.g. homeowner with solar panels) to instantly find available energy buyers such as National Grid who want to buy any excess energy. Resilience Energy does this on your behalf and negotiate the price within milliseconds, and delivers energy to other customers just a few minutes later.

What is meant by balancing the grid?

Grid balancing has become an important aspect for the power grid in matching the supply of energy to demand. In more recent years this has become less predictable with more renewable energy being installed into the grid.

How long does the Feed-in-Tariff (FIT) last?

FIT discontinued on 31 March 2019.  However, if you were lucky enough to get this, you will get paid FIT for 20 years from the date that you registered.  You keep the rate from the date of registration with your energy supplier and the rate will also follow the Retail Price Index (RPI) each April, which means your investment retains its value.

For customers who are buying our solar and battery package post-FIT, the app ‘R Energy’ works by assessing the value of excess capacity in your battery at a particular time.  It analyses whether it makes financial sense to use spare capacity in the battery or to sell it back to the grid of they need additional capacity. The ‘R Energy’ app will make the most advantageous decision to ensure that you will benefit, ensuring security of supply and value by maximising savings or income.
